Title: Advancements in Digital Twins for IoT Environments: Bridging Applied and Scientific Research
Abstract: Several IoT use cases aim to realize Digital Twins (DTs) of their physical counterparts to forecast system behavior and support decision-making processes. However, designing and implementing DTs is often challenging, requiring the integration of methodologies and components from various areas of computer science, such as simulation, edge-cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and domain-specific knowledge. In this talk, we will review the DT ecosystem within IoT from a dual perspective. First, we will discuss lessons learned from the practical implementation of DTs in large-scale projects involving IoT systems for smart cities and agriculture. Second, we will explore scientific contributions related to IoT system modeling and frameworks that support the semi-automatic generation of DTs.
