How
to reach Tenerife
The usual means of travelling
to and from the Canary Islands is by aircraft. Tenerife is the only
Canary Island with two airports. Until 1977 it had only one: Los
Rodeos airport is situated in the north of the island near La Laguna.
A second airport - the Reina Sofia (named after the wife of the
King of Spain) - was constructed in the south near the Costa del
Silencio, a few miles from Las Americas/Los Cristianos.
Nowadays, the Reina Sofia is a thoroughly modern airport and handles
almost all of Tenerife's international traffic that, on Fridays
(the busiest day of the week), means one flight approximately every
six minutes. Over the last year the airport has been undergoing
a 'face-lift' to improve it's appearance and work is presently continuing
on redesigning the car and coach parks.
