Graduate program in Computer Science

The graduate program represents the most advanced academic degree, which is awarded after three years of education and training in advanced research.

The Dottorato di Ricerca in Informatica is part of the Scuola di dottorato in Scienze e Ingegneria dell'Informazione. It consists in a three-year graduate program leading to the "Dottore di Ricerca" degree, which corresponds to the Doctor of Philosopy (PhD) degree. The program is a consortium between the University of Bologna, and the University of Padova.

The program consists of two semesters of course work followed by research leading to a dissertation describing original results. Each semester consists of three 20-hour courses with a final exam or project. Consult the Statuto del Dottorato (in Italian) or the infopage for further details.

Some of the principal research areas covered by the faculty in which dissertation work can be carried out include:

  • Distributed Systems and Algorithms
  • Distributed Simulation
  • Computer Networks and Applications
  • Software Engineering
  • Programming Languages and Systems
  • Fault-Tolerant and Real Time Computing
  • Parallel Algorithms
  • Randomized Algorithms
  • Formal Methods
  • Semantics of Programming Languages
  • Logic and Constraint Programming
  • Machine Learning
  • Bioinformatics
  • Information Systems and Databases
  • Concurrency theory
  • Logic in Computer Science
  • Multimedia systems
  • Security
