Ersads is both an Advanced School and a Research Workshop, combining five half-day tutorials on advanced research topics in distributed systems with presentations of recent research results by the participants. The setting of the Seminar favors cross-fertilization and discussion of differing viewpoints on distributed system issues. The schedule leaves lots of time for informal exchanges and activities outside of the lecture room. One of the objectives of Ersads is to create informal links amongst young researchers that may foster future collaborations.
This fourth edition of Ersads follows the tradition set by three previous editions that took place in the French Alps (1995), in the Swiss Alps (1997) and in the Madeira Island (1999). Attendance is limited to 50 participants and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Even though paper submission is not mandatory for attending Ersads, interested participants are encouraged to submit papers describing their on-going work on distributed systems, even if the results are preliminary and fall outside of the topics covered by the tutorials. The Scientific Committee will consider quality, innovation and potential to foster discussion in making its selection. Selected papers will be presented at the Workshop and will appear in the Ersads proceedings.
Papers must be submitted by email to the address ersads@cs.unibo.it in electronic form. Acceptable formats are limited to PDF, PS or simple ASCII. Papers should be limited to 4000 words (approximately 6 pages) including figures and bibliography. Submissions that are longer or that are in a different format will be rejected. Selected papers will be presented at the Workshop, and will appear in the Seminar proceedings.
