PixView is a DOS-based image viewer that integrates nicely with Windows 95 systems.
Using PixView you can browse your file system and visualize, copy, move and delete graphics files.
PixView supports both keyboard and mouse based interaction and its interface has been designed in order to provide you a fast path for every operation.
PixView supports Windows 95's long file names. If you run PixView from within Windows 95 you will be able to access the full name of your files (and not just that annoying ~n alias).
But this doesn't mean PixView forgot about good old DOS: you still can run PixView from DOS but this way you won't be able to access long file names.
In addition to let you see the contents of a graphic file PixView allows you some basic file operation like copy/move/delete a file.


Supported file formats:
PixView can decode GIF, JFIF (JPEG), and a subset of Windows BMP file formats (namely uncompressed 8 bits per pixel images).
To decode JPEG files PixView uses the well known library from the Independent JPEG Group.

Supported video adapters:
PixView supports virtually every video adapter using the VESA BIOS Extension that usually comes with any graphics card's BIOS.
If your card is very old or its VBE BIOS extension is broken you can try SciTech's VBE drivers.

DJGPP & DPMI:
PixView is compiled using DJGPP a DOS based 32 bit development environment based on GCC.
To be able to run in a 32 bit environment, DOS programs compiled with DJGPP need a DPMI server.
Various commercial servers are available (qdpmi, Windows -yes, when you are in a Windows' DOS
box you have DPMI-, etc...). If you don't have such a server (or you don't want to run Windows
each time you need to run PixView :) the PixView package comes with cwsdpmi a freeware server from Charles Sandmann.

What's new:
The addition to the latest version of PixView (PixView 2.3) are:
-Support for Windows 95 long file names
-Copy/move file with file system browser
-Faster executable using PCG optimizations

Status of the program:
PixView is (and hopefully with remain) copyrighted free software.
If you however like PixView or need to use it for slide shows or to call it from within other applications you could register PixView Pro (more details on this in the docs within the PixView zipfile).
In any case all feedback about PixView is appreciated (e-mail is ok but a postcard is much nicer ;).
